Joining the ranks of Twitter, Facebook announced yesterday they've launched . Verified pages and profiles provide a kind of seal of approval saying, “Yes, this is, in fact, the real account of the celebrity/brand/public figure you’re trying to connect with.”
According to , “Like on Twitter, verified accounts on Facebook will be denoted with a small blue icon with a checkmark in it. It will appear next to the user or page’s name on their Timeline, in search results and elsewhere around Facebook.”

TechCrunch reports, “Verified Pages are being rolled out to ‘just a small group of prominent public figures (celebrities, journalists, government officials, popular brands and businesses) with large audiences,' Facebook says, and will soon roll out to profiles as well.”
